Anne Smith wins Young AFCEAn of the Year
Ms. Smith became involved in the AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter in 2004 in conjunction with her transitioning into the business development field and was first elected to the Chapter Board in 2006. She has repeatedly demonstrated her leadership, dedication, effectiveness and creativity. She currently serves as the chapter VP of Membership where she oversees and coordinates plans and programs for recruiting individual members and corporate sponsors together with the VP of Individual Membership and VP of Corporate Membership. Previously, she served as VP of Individual Membership where she organized AFCEA membership recruiting at various events including the National Security Agency’s (NSA) Business in a Minute, Central Maryland Chapter’s Mid-Atlantic Intel Symposium and NSA’s Commercial Acquisition Conference (NCAC). Ms. Smith also fills prominent roles on chapter committees. She served as the committee chair of the NSA’s Acquisition and Industry Symposium (NAIS) 2008 where she led overall coordination of the event which was co-sponsored by NSA and AFCEA. For the 2007 NAIS symposium, Ms. Smith served as the registration committee chair where she improved registration by integrating with the AFCEA international process. In 2006/2007, she assisted in the management of the chapter website content to keep it updated and accurate for members. In support of another chapter activity, Ms. Smith contributed directly to the diversity and mentoring goals of the chapter. She assisted in planning the Women in Intelligence Group (WIIG) Mentorship Circles in 2007/2008 where groups of 8-10 women were paired with 1-2 mentors to discuss topics such as networking, mentorship, best practices, professional development and giving back to the community as they relate to women in the intelligence community. Ms. Smith also co-created the CMD Chapter tri-fold advertisement brochure which explained chapter benefits and registration information to consolidate the information for recruiting while giving the information a professional appearance. Ms. Smith has also been involved in the Chapter’s educational outreach activities. In 2006/2007, Ms. Smith conducted mock interviews for high school students at Meade High School to better prepare them with interviewing and communication skills they will need to succeed in their careers and education. While serving with distinction in all the areas mentioned, she contributed to and volunteered at chapter activities including the Valentine’s Gala, Young AFCEAn Bull and Oyster Roast, and participated in fund raising golf tournaments. While her contributions at the chapter level are significant, they are not limited to just the chapter as Ms. Smith also serves on the 2008 International Intelligence Committee.
Ms. Smith joined Harris as a financial analyst in 2004 where she soon transitioned into a Business Development Manager. In 2008, she joined Pyxis Engineering, LLC as the Director of Strategic Programs.
